Dr Nathan Jeffery, Naturopathic Doctor.

In my early 20’s I crashed. Out of nowhere, I would have episodes where it felt like my brain stopped working and I struggled to do the simplest of things. At times talking was almost impossible. I felt exhausted and lived with a constant feeling of being overwhelmed and anxious.

Health care providers could not explain my symptoms and I jumped from medication to medication. After many years, I found the naturopathic model that focuses on a systems-based approach that encourages a self-empowerment model for health optimization. I began to learn about my body and started studying nutrition and natural medicines. I found ways to manage my energy and support my brain through nutrition and herbal medicines.

This quickly became a special interest. I learned all I could about brain health, digestion, and anxiety. These interests brought me to study biochemistry for my Bachelor of Science degree and later I graduated with a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree.

When I first started practicing I had many patients with joint pain. I went to the South West College of Naturopathic Medicine to learn pain management injections and became very good at relieving joint and muscle pain. I liked having a natural treatment that could reduce pain quickly while I worked with patients on underlying factors contributing to pain like inflammation. Muscle and fascial pain and trigger point injections have remained a major part of my practice since the beginning.

Over the past 3 years, I have had a growing interest in neurodiversity. I get to meet many amazing people who are self-identified or formally diagnosed with autism, ADHD, or anxiety. Many share unique health conditions like food intolerances, gut issues and IBS, hyperflexibility spectrum disorder or Ellerl Danlos Syndrome, complex PTSD, dyslexia, and dysautonomia / POTS. My approach to care is focused on self-empowerment, advocacy, and neurodiversity-affirming integrative and natural healthcare.

Education is another part of my practice. For many years, I have enjoyed and had the opportunity of sharing my focus interests in human physiology, and anatomy by teaching nursing students at local colleges and universities. This continues to be one of my favorite ways to maintain community connections!

Today, I enjoy learning about brain health and home-based neurofeedback technology. I have a general practice and treat many health conditions. I also provide virtual consultations to remote locations in BC and abroad.
